World-renowned Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama has worked in a variety of media, including painting, sculpture, performance art, and installation. Kusama's iconic Infinity Mirror Rooms, which originated with Phalli's Field in 1965, situate viewers in kaleidoscopic spaces filled with multicolored lights or whimsical forms. These mirror-lined installations reflect endlessly, distorting rooms to project the illusion of infinite space. Over the years, the works have come to symbolize different modalities within the various contexts they have inhabited, from Kusama's "self-obliteration" in the Vietnam War era to her more harmonious aspirations in the present. By examining her early unsettling installations alongside her more recent ethereal atmospheres, this volume aims to historicize the body of work amidst the resurgence of experiential practices within the global landscape of contemporary art. Generously illustrated, this publication invites readers to examine the series' impact over the course of the artist's career. Accompanying essays, an interview with the artist, and a scholarly chronology round out the book.

One of the masters of children’s picture books returns with a simple and lovely story about taking one’s time. Teckentrup’s spacious, textured collages, brushed with soft color and populated by a pair of charming hedgehogs, convey the beauty of a natural setting, and the comforting bond between caregiver and child. It is evening and the big and little hedgehog are slowly making their way home. There is so much to see, and the little one wants to take it all in. Each step of the way the big hedgehog patiently asks, »What are we waiting for now?« The little hedgehog’s answers unfold in a series of lush landscapes as the two animals wait for the sun to set, for birds to fly by, for the moon and stars to appear, and for the world around them to prepare for sleep. At last, the little hedgehog is also asleep, carried home in the big hedgehog’s arms. Perfect for naptime, bedtime—or for any time that asks that we take a moment and slow down—Teckentrup’s signature combination of simple text and soothing illustration will appeal to readers young and old.

Bustletown’s many fans will delight in this nocturnal return trip, which finds the village’s beloved people, animals, and streetscapes as fun and busy as ever. No matter what time of year, the inhabitants of Bustletown are busy working, walking, playing, eating, making music, exercising, and shopping. Now, even though it’s nighttime, the fun hasn’t stopped. Widely considered Japan’s most influential and prolific photographer, Daido Moriyama has been challenging conventions of the art form for more than a half century. This exhaustive and electrifying retrospective, published in cooperation with the Daido Moriyama Foundation and based on entirely new research, looks at every stage of Moriyama’s extensive career, including his extraordinary images as well as his conceptual contributions to photography. One of a generation of postwar Japan’s groundbreaking artists, Moriyama has continually established his own visual grammar. This book features more than 250 chronologically arranged images that reveal his constantly evolving career: his early editorial work of the mid-1960s, focused on the American occupation and the experimental theater; his radical experimentation of late 1960s and the 1970s; the self-reflexive photos of the 1980s and 1990s; and his ongoing exploration of cities, among other relevant moments. It also includes more than 400 spreads from Moriyama’s rarely seen publications, mapping the sources of his visual production. Rounding out the volume are texts by the editor and leading Japanese scholars, a personal essay by the artist, and a full chronology of his life and work. Accompanying a major exhibition on Moriyama’s output this impressive volume reframes Moriyama’s legacy, and is certain to become the definitive publication on his work.

A good eye and well-trained senses are essential requirements for an aesthetic garden design. Peter Berg’s philosophy takes a very special approach: he expects his gardens to be both sustainable and natural – which the use of natural stone in particular is intended to ensure. They should be reduced to just a few materials, and along with the colour scheme, radiate a pleasant inner calmness. Each garden should also meet the individual needs of its owners. His concept has resulted in gardens that are unique and whose fascination lies in the clarity of their design. This splendid volume presents the most beautiful among them for the first time. It will serve as a source of inspiration for both the professional garden designer as well as the ambitious and passionate private gardener.

This classic work of analog photojournalism— focusing on the idiosyncratic denizens of an iconic bar in the red-light district of Hamburg, Germany—is now available in a gorgeous new edition that features a tribute by musician and actor Tom Waits. Photographer Anders Petersen was hanging out at a dive bar on the Reeperbahn in Hamburg in 1968 when someone grabbed his camera from the table where he was sitting and started taking pictures. Petersen used the opportunity to photograph the culprit—and the rest of the bar’s motley crew of patrons. The resulting project is one of the most revered photobooks of all time, a celebration of a gritty city at the tail end of the 1960s, and the cornerstone of Petersen’s storied career. The images have become classics of their genre; Tom Waits used one for the cover of his legendary album Rain Dogs. Their candidness and authenticity remain as eloquent today as when they were first published in 1978. This sumptuously produced reissue features a new foreword by Waits, and is certain to find a new audience, who will appreciate the stunning analog photography and its elegiac collective portrait of the fringes of society.
