This beautiful and remarkable behind-the-scenes study of dancers, musicians and onlookers offers a social and narrative dimension to the everyday life at the legendary Bolshoi Ballet. “Gusov’s photographs are lightning fissures, apertures, openings. They are neat as the bullet marks made in the moving target of time by a master of the craft, and the weird and hopeless dawn that streams through these tightly clustered pinholes is the light of future.” —Andrei Navrozov Sasha Gusov specializes in portraiture, classical music, ballet and dance photography. He moved to England in 1989, where he got a job with printer Roy Snell who, when not working, allowed him access to the dark room. In 1993 his self-commissioned photographic project Images of the Bolshoi Ballet, published by the British Journal of Photography, earned him international recognition. Gusov’s work has since been widely published throughout the world. Photographic books include 25 years in Photography, 2014; Belarus: Terra Incognita, 2010; Royal Parks, 2011; Locusts, 2008; Italian Carousel, 2003 and Shooting Images, 2001.

This book of more than 150 photographs shows an exceptional portrait of Madrid from the beginning of the 19th century to the present, together with a prologue signed by the writer Antonio Munoz Molina. Its pages show the great photographs of Alfonso, perhaps the greatest graphic chronicler of Madrid at the beginning of the 20th century; the prewar and war images of Henri Cartier- Bresson, Robert Capa and Gerda Taro; the postwar portrait of William Klein, Francesc Catala-Roca, Ramon Masats, Inge Morath or Cas Oorthyus; the incipient development society that photographers like Gianni Ferrari, Ferdinando Scianna or Joana Biarnes immortalized; the Madrid Movement of Alberto Garcia- Alix, Miguel Trillo, Ouka Leele or Pablo Perez Minguez; and the cultural, social and economic environment of the 21st century from the perspective of Cristina Garcia Rodero, Alex Webb or Thomas Struth. A tour of the historical, architectural, cultural, sporting events... that have marked daily life, the urban landscape and the unique character of the capital.

This book is a 120-image journey through the biography and work of one of the great women photographers of the last century. With a brief career as a photographer, Tina Modotti was capable of creating an aesthetic of great forcefulness, becoming one of the main reporters of one of the most convulsive periods in the history of Mexico, the country where she lived and died at the age of 46. Tina Modotti's photographic work is a reflection of her life, marked by uprootedness and independence. Modotti knew how to see the beauty of the imperfect and to reflect it in her work. She developed her entire photographic work between 1923 and 1930, the years during which she lived in Mexico. Her aesthetics had an impact on the Mexican photographic scene, just as the paintings of Diego Rivera, Orozco and Siqueiros influenced her. Her photographic work is a paradigm of the fusion between Mexican revolutionary culture and avant-garde photographic aesthetics, to which she added the ideals of equality proposed by socialism and her marked social commitment.

This book recounts the life and loves of artists and writers, Leonora Carrington, Peggy Guggenheim, Dorothea Tanning, Leonor Fini, Meret Oppenheim, Gala, Luise Straus and Marie-Berthe Aurenche during their years with Max Ernst. Beginning in Cologne at the outbreak of war in 1914 and the eruption of Dada, it describes the birth and heyday of Surrealism in Paris in the 1920s and ends with its demise in New York in the 1940s. The years in between were a whirlwind that shredded the artists dreams and scattered them around the globe from Cologne, London and Paris, to Saigon, Marseille, Lisbon and New York. Their saga contains episodes of searing passion, madness and betrayal when they made great art and lost, found and abandoned one another in the process.

Picasso's Kitchen delves, for the first time, into the relationship between Picasso and cooking. Food and kitchenware are present in many of his still-lifes, such as the tomato plant in the Grands- Augustins studio, the eel stew that his wife Jacqueline used to cook, the main painting he made on Manet's Le dejeuner sur l'herbe... Cuisine is also a recurring topic in his poetry, and many of his sculptures are based on kitchen utensils, such as his famous cubist absinthe glass. This publication addresses food and cuisine in Picasso's work, but also the restaurants that marked his life - such as the famous Le Catalan, near his studio on Grands-Augustins Street, in which Picasso used to eat with his friends during German occupation - as well as the importance of restaurants as meeting points for the avant-garde, from Quatre Gats in Barcelona to Lapin Agile in Montmartre, Paris.

In order to go beyond the rules and the veneration that have characterised the development of photography since its beginnings, it is necessary to transgress, to invent, to play and to flirt with freedom. Some authors, specially in the new generations, have dared to break the rules, without vindications, just out of curiosity, seeking to have and portray fun. Revolving around this idea, Players presents a selection of works by Magnum photographers that have playful approach, either because they play with the medium itself, or because they portray fun and leisure.

Andy Warhol (Pittsburgh, 1928) is without a doubt one of the most relevant and best-known artists of the 20th century. This volume, which accompanies the exhibition of the same name in Barcelona, Madrid and Málaga, highlights how Andy Warhol captured the cult of merchandise from industrial inventions of the 19th century. Always attentive to technical and industrial breakthroughs, Warhol used all types of techniques and machinery, from silk-screen printing to video recorders, with production patterns that he himself defined as “pertaining to an assembly line.” This apparently impersonal mechanical art, cynically rejects any intentional spiritual burden. This catalogue brings together a selection of over 250 works by Andy Warhol, which portray the technical and conceptual evolution of underground art in New York, emerging from the start of the second half of the 20th century. It also includes a series of essays written on his work and a selection of portraits of the artist, by photographers Alberto Schommer, Richard Avedon and Robert Mapplethorpe.

Pablo Picasso always maintained a complex and intense relationship with photography and with the photographers in his milieu, something that could be seen when he pretended to be a reporter one summer, when he used his image as an icon, or when he took inspired and playful self-portraits. This book which is also the catalogue of the exhibition of the same name at the Museu Picasso of Barcelona, immerses the reader in the universe of Picasso through photography and brings together images that explore all the facets of a creator who is simultaneously the author, model, witness and viewer of his work and life.
